Galilee Winter Festival brings the north to the centre stage

Friday, December 27, 2024

Following a devastating 14-month period where tourism in the Galilee ground to a near halt, the region is seeking to revitalize its economy with the 12th annual Galilee Winter Festival.

This year, the festival is making a unique move, bringing the spirit of the north directly to the center of the country at the Givatayim Theater from January 1st to 4th.

The festival, a joint effort by the Galilee Association “Western Galilee “Time” (Zman Galil), the Jewish National Fund USA, the Givatayim Theater, and the Municipality of Givatayim, will showcase the best of the region through a vibrant farmers’ market, cultural performances, and culinary delights.

“We are thrilled to bring the vibrant culture and cuisine of the Galilee to Givatayim and connect residents of the center with the people of our region,” said Michal Shiloah Galnoor, Executive Director of the “Western Galilee Time” Association.

“The war has severely impacted small tourism businesses in the Galilee, and this festival is a crucial step in their recovery.”

A Celebration of Galilee

The festival will transform the Givatayim Theater into a miniature Galilee, with the building adorned in the region’s colors.

A dedicated tourist information station, designed in the style of the ancient Akko citadel, will provide visitors with travel tips and recommendations.

The theater cafe will also undergo a Galilean transformation, offering a menu inspired by local cuisine featuring fresh, regional ingredients.

Highlights of the Festival:

Farmers’ Market: A colorful market will feature an array of products from local producers and artisans, including boutique wines, cheeses, spices, honey, and handcrafted goods.
Culinary Delights: The festival will feature a “Taste of Galilee” event with renowned chef Barak Yehezkeli, who will share his personal story of returning to the land and building a community of farmers and artisans.
Cultural Performances: The opening night will feature a captivating performance by the youth group of the Kibbutz Dance Company, showcasing their dynamic choreography.
Family Fun: Children can participate in a fun workshop hosted by pastry chef Hagit Stern, learning to decorate “sufganiot” (doughnuts) and create delicious treats.

A Call to Support

The Galilee Winter Festival serves as a crucial platform for the region’s recovery.

By attending the festival, visitors can directly support local businesses and contribute to the revitalization of the Galilee’s tourism industry.
